Ep9: Citizen Science

EPISODE SUMMARY

Public interest in our environment, here in the UK at least – seems at an all time high with a specific focus on the management of our waters. People are engaged and there are strong feelings about the health of the rivers and waterways that flow through our landscape. Whether challenges come from agricultural run off, sewage spills or urban and road runoff, many people want to see action and help drive improvements.

So in todays episode we’re exploring one way people can – and are getting involved – through citizen science. Co-hosted by Dr Rob Bradburne, the Environment Agency’s Chief Scientist, we hear from Dr Sasha Woods, Director of Science and Policy at Earthwatch and Michelle Walker, Technical Director at the Rivers Trust.

We’ll explore what Citizen Science is, what it can tell us and whether there are any unintended consequences of using it.
